The Best Animation Studio vanished

Anime in and of itself in the world can be weird. Anime stories are followed by fighting shonen which follows knuckling up of aliens and their strength is tested against one another or high schoolers focus on the mundane in falling in love and trying to find their place in the world. But, sometimes the reality can be strange in anime rather than fiction as an anime studio disappeared into thin air. In recent days Tear Studio has re-emerged, but the story of disappearing of the animation studio till now the former employees are scratching their heads.

The Japanese animation studio, Tear Studio Co., Ltd was founded on March 15, 2013. In December 2019 the studio filed for bankruptcy with about 43 million yen in debt, and around 50 animators were put into debt for about 8 million yen.

On March 15, 2013, Tear Studio was established in Suginami, Tokyo, Japan by Jun Kato. With the Chinese studio’s partnership, Teartribe was founded as Tear Studio’s overseas production department, experienced to achieve stable economic and quality products in the animation industry.

Jun Kato in 2013 founded, the company’s debt tuned to $392,000, while $73,000 in back pay for 50 animators. Gen Sato, one of those animators, complained on Twitter that the company was not contactable, other individuals and companies tried and failed to contact the company and they got a negative response from the company’s representatives.

Twitter account and contact information have been deleted by the studio from its website.

Tokyo Anime Company entirely disappeared apparently, and the artists were left unpaid for their work.

In the year 2019 April with Chinese partners, Teartribe was launched by Tear Studio, to make anime for the overseas production division.

A famous artist Sato revealed that he was not paid for his recent work, and the company has disappeared entirely, what can be worse than this?

Sato says: “I have thought that a company producing theatrical anime would not only not pay the workers, but also erase all trace of itself from Twitter and disappear.”

Even insiders of the anime industry said executives vanished from anime studios and they’re not contactable.

The pay is low and the work hours are long in the anime industry. The worst thing is no pay rather than low pay. Several people who were contracted by Tokyo-based anime studio Tear Studio are facing a problem with the pay which they didn’t get.

OK, General inquiries from fans and general net surfers are no longer fielding on the studio website. But the industry surely must be having some connection with the companies to work with Tear on its recent projects. And maybe, the studio is allowing them to have some business-to-business communication which we general people don’t know, right?

Wrong. It’s so baffling that within less than three weeks of the release of Fragtime, the sudden disappearance of Tear happened. In some selected theaters an OVA that’s still running as part of its limited theatrical run.

Trailer for Fragtime

It’s really strange and nobody has any idea and even the industry insiders don’t know where its executives are and most importantly where Tear’s employees are. Some are considering that the members of the committee may know the address of Tear’s Studio, where it is located in Tokyo, and where its public matters are recorded, as well as its phone numbers, and email contacts are? Some say that Tear’s executives purposely dodge anything to find out the whereabouts of the studio.

It has begun things to have bizarre for Tear Studio, which is behind the anime Fragtime and Why the Hell are you Here, Teacher? With 404 errors popping up the studio disappeared completely from the internet when fans tried to access their official website and their Twitter account. Then, many employees reported that they couldn’t contact the studio and they didn’t receive their wages yet. But now, Tokyo Shoko Research (TSR), the credit research company reported that the parent company, Next-Batter of Tear Studio has started doing legal proceedings for bankruptcy filings.

However, the sudden resurfacing of the Tear Studio has left 50 workers, including the animators unpaid for their work, and how the bankruptcy proceedings will go, will they ever receive their compensation from the company?
