Character design can be often sensitive to tackle. To create your character you should have a lot of creative thinking. When you see classic characters they look familiar from movies, advertising, and cartoons and look simple, but a lot of effort and skills have been put into them to make them so fruitful.

- Keep a distance from the reference stuff
Make aim that you create something original when you are working don’t keep the reference stuff in front of you. It’s because when you see something and then try to do the same thing it ends up with something new, in lieu you will get something else as a result.
2. Research other characters
To draw a character gets inspired through research. Your mind works as a visual library. Study the character designs made on shop signs, cereal boxes, and TV commercials and notice the people who are around you – their gestures, how they walk, how they are dressed – and try to use them in your design.
3. Exaggerate
Try to develop your character designs by defining their features as it will help viewers to identify the key qualities of the characters. While doing cartoon caricatures exaggeration is a key that helps you to emphasize certain personality traits. The exaggeration technique can be applied to characteristics also. If your character is powerful, don’t just give it normally, soup them up so that they look bigger five times more than they should be.
4. Decide your character design
Keep your audience in mind before designing. If you are drawing for young children the character designs should be designed around bright colours and basic shapes. If you’re working for a client, then the characters are pre-planned. Commissioned character designs are more prohibitive but no lesser than creative.
5. Make your character unique
Whether you draw a cat, robot, or zombie, you can assure there are a hundred other similar creations, but your character design should be different and strong and interesting visual sense so that you can get people’s attention easily.
6. Develop a line of action
Line of action is the many aspects when creating a character design. It defines the direction of the character, brings feelings in movement, and it’s a useful narrative tool.
7. First to find the posture
When beginning with a new character design try to find out their posture. While sketching may sure that the posture of your characters is perfect like standing posture, are they hunched over, or are they sitting proud and straight?
8. Consider the line quality
Uneven lines, scratchy, and sharp points make your character uneasy and irregular. Draw lines of your character design thick, soft, even, and round lines approach cute characters. Always balance between straight and curved lines. Curved and straight lines give your character a tempo.
9. Consider all the angles
For example, a character has a massive beer belly it may look flat from the front but when seen from the side it takes on a new persona. You have to look from all angles once you have planned your character design.
10. Choose colors carefully
A character’s personality can be communicated through colors. In comic books reds, yellows and blue colors give hero qualities to a character design. First, you need to understand the basic rules of colors to decide on effective colors. To generate an effective color palette one technique is in a monochromatic color scheme decide on two complementary colors and work with them. If you are new to coloring then try to keep it simple.
